Family Open day at The Battery

Lowestoft at 10:00 AM

Families are invited to explore the Battery of Ideas project in the former Tesco building at 119-125 London Road North, Lowestoft. Families are invited to Lowestoft’s newest creative space ‘The Battery’ this Saturday 23 November for a free entry, under-water themed activity experience.

Open from 10am – 3pm, The Battery, has opened its doors on Lowestoft’s London Road North (the old Tesco) and is home to Archie the Squid, a life-sized replica of the giant squid from the Natural History Museum's mollusc collection and a giant sea creature made from seaweed by artist Julia Lohmann and on loan from Messums Art Hub.

A range of interactive activities will be on offer, inspired by Natural History Museum and Cefas, and run by The Battery of Ideas team. Lowestoft Maritime Museum and Books & Prints will also be there, so you can have a go at making your own sea-themed print.

This will be the first time The Battery has opened its doors to the public since the team behind First Light Festival took over the building in July. The Family Day is the first of many events and activities planned, with two digital art installations exhibiting in the space for dates from 27th November – 19th December, a watercolour painting workshop on 13 December and music and singing groups starting in January in partnership with The Seagull Theatre.

The Family Open Day also follows a special schools day on Friday 22 November. 5 local schools will be visiting The Battery to enjoy workshops delivered by The Natural History Museum and CEFAS.
