Lowestoft Heritage Open Days Festival
Town’s popular Heritage Festival will return this September
Lowestoft’s award-winning Heritage Open Day’s Festival will return this September and the call is out for those wishing to host an activity or event to register their interest before the end of July.
Each year the festival steering group assists in the promotion of events celebrating the town’s rich history, hosts the festival Information Hub at the railway station and both prints and distributes publicity material.
Since its inception, the Lowestoft festival has proved extremely popular with thousands of people enjoying a host of free talks, events, recitals and exhibitions as well as visits to some of the town’s most iconic buildings and organisations. Following the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, some events from last year’s festival were cancelled or rescheduled as the country entered a period of national mourning, however, this year it is hoped that the festival will bounce back, and organisations and individuals will, once again show their support by both registering and attending a wide range of events and activities.
As part of this year’s festival, the Lowestoft team will once again utilise the community facilities at the town’s railway station thanks to its ongoing relationship with the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership and the Lowestoft Central Project, this will include hosting the festival information hub and activities within the Parcels Office Public Exhibition Space.
Speaking on behalf of the Lowestoft Heritage Open Day’s Festival, steering group member Martin Halliday said, “We are thrilled to confirm that Lowestoft Heritage Open Day’s Festival will return this year as part of a national celebration of Culture and Heritage. Once again, we are keen to support those individuals and organisations in the Lowestoft area that wish to take part, it is therefore important that potential events and activities are registered before the end of July, in order that we can fully support their efforts. It is encouraging that several individuals and organisations have already expressed their interest in supporting the festival again this year.”
