Holocaust Memorial Day

Event Details

Holocaust Memorial Day will once again be commemorated in Lowestoft on Monday 27th January with a series of events organised by Lowestoft Town Council.
This annual event marks significant anniversaries in 2025 with the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia being remembered. The events taking place in Lowestoft will each allow local people time to remember the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, the millions of other victims of Nazi persecution and other genocides around the world.
Three events have been organised for the day:
🟣 9:45am | East Coast Cinema
This ceremony will include a reflective speech given by Professor Lawrence Goldman, Emeritus Fellow in History, St Peter’s College, Oxford and live music performance by Jewish performers “Da Marjanbo”.
🟣 11:00am | Lowestoft Railway Station
Remembering Lowestoft’s connection to the Kindertransport, there will be a series of reflections and poetry given by Lowestoft Town Councillors and local academy schools. This event will also include the laying of wreathes.
🟣 2:30pm | Kensington Gardens
A local school will join the international community in placing 80 decorative candles as part of the “80 candles for 80 years” campaign.
All are welcome to attend these free events.
Please note that all event timings are approximate and some of the events are weather permitting.
