There are two On the Edge events taking place at The Mayfly this week as part of the On the Edge festival.
The Vanishing: Members of the Mayfly Poetry Group have prepared an initial exhibit of work on the theme of the ‘vanishing world’. On the first day of the exhibition, these pieces will be made into anthotypes and put out in the Mayfly garden for the sun to do its bit. (An anthotype is an image created using photosensitive material from plants under the influence of light e.g. UV light, rays of sun. They will naturally fade over time.)
The poems will fade over the course of the exhibitions, we invite you to read and photograph them before they disappear. There will also be an opportunity to create anthotypes of your own poems and so add to the exhibition.
EDGE Pieces: participants are invited to bring an ‘unplugged’ musical instrument to improvise with others over a looped sequence of four chords, in the sequence E, D, G, E. The chords can be of any type, as long as they follow that repeating sequence. If you don’t have an instrument, you can clap, improvise beats, sing, ‘beatbox’, or even recite poetry over the backing. We hope to record these ‘jams’. Constraints may be applied if necessary. Bring your own loops if you wish. We have Bluetooth speakers.
Both The Vanishing and EDGE Pieces are taking place at The Mayfly. There is no need to book. Just turn up.
The Vanishing will be available to view during normal cafe opening hours:
Monday – Wednesday: 10.00am – 2.30pm
Thursday – Saturday: 10.00am – 4.00pm
Closed Sunday.
EDGE Pieces will take place between 10.00am and 11.00am on the following days:
Saturday 12th September
Monday 14th September
Wednesday 16th September
Friday 18th September.
