Classic film screening at the Mayfly.
Slick, sad, and beautiful, based on the book by Walter Tevis, this is my favourite film of all time. Here’s why: it’s cinema which often feels like theatre – shot spectacularly – in which Paul Newman, The Ultimate Specimen, strafes around being intense and discovering the true cost of winning. It’s about pool but not particularly; there’s not a lot of gloss but there’s plenty of grit; there’s romance, there’s jazz; there’s a milk-sippin’ villain. Before there was ‘The Color of Money’ there was ‘The Hustler’…and it’s one you ‘just…can’t…miss…’ Piers
