With a career spanning two decades on the international circuit, Polly Gibbons is a powerhouse of soul and jazz. Twice nominated as “Best Jazz Vocalist” by the BBC and Jazz FM, and likened to a “female Gregory Porter” by Downbeat, Polly’s sound is steeped in the blues, gospel, and R&B of her childhood.
Straight out of rural Suffolk, Polly arrived on the London scene at 17, quickly ascending to perform at the Royal Albert Hall and a residency at New York’s legendary Birdland. After years touring the globe—from Java Jazz to Montreal—Polly returned to her roots to record her ninth album, As It Is, at Suffolk’s own Old Jet studio.
For her First Light performance, Polly brings her characteristic wit and grace to a soulful set of both original songs and inspired interpretations of classic standards. Accompanied by her long-time collaborators, featuring Phil Merriman on piano, she explores the heartfelt intersection of jazz, blues and soul, showcasing the storytelling and vocal depth that have made her one of the region’s finest musical exports.
