Born in 1972 and raised in Kamakura Japan, Posuposu is a unique throat singer/songwriter playing open-tuned guitar and the Kohkin (Jew’s Harp). His songwriting uses rich harmonics, fluid rhythms and a focus on overtones and timbre to evoke moods akin to Impressionist Painters.

Posuposu Otani’s musical journey began at age 20 with a passion for punk music, leading him to experiment with home recordings on a 4-track tape deck. His diverse experiences, including time spent in San Francisco’s skateboarding scene and travels through India and the Republic of Sakha to study the Kohkin, have profoundly influenced his sound.
Since 2006, he has been a prominent figure in the Tokyo and Yokohama underground music scenes, closely associated with the legendary experimental record label Kouenji Enban. In 2017, he relocated to the mountainous regions of Kanagawa to immerse himself in “mountain-music and mountain life,” further shaping his artistic vision.
